Janice Rourke Hugener is a Partner in the Los Angeles office of Resnick & Lewis, P.C. where she brings seasoned expertise in representing domestic and international insurers in complex coverage and bad faith litigation. She serves as coverage and monitoring counsel across a wide array of claims, including architects and engineers (A&E), directors and officers (D&O), employment practices liability (EPL), errors and omissions (E&O), fidelity, miscellaneous professional liability (MPL), and self-insured employers’ excess policies.
Janice has counseled insurers on complex, high-stakes exposures involving securities fraud, shareholder derivative litigation, regulatory investigations, consumer class actions, professional liability claims, employment disputes, child sexual abuse allegations, and catastrophic workers’ compensation matters involving both public and private entities and their leadership, often in highly sensitive, reputationally significant contexts.
Prior to joining us, Janice was a partner in the Insurance and Litigation Practice Group of a national law firm, served as Chief Legal Officer for a US-based professional liability insurer, and was General Counsel for a California-based design/build entertainment system integration company. Janice has authored numerous articles and contributed as an editor, speaker, and panelist for the American Bar Association.
Janice is licensed to practice law in the state of California.
Janice holds a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts from Loyola Marymount University and received her Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School.
Outside her professional role, Janice engages in plein air painting that reflects her deep affinity for nature. She also manages her family’s homestead farm, embracing a hands-on approach to sustainability and land stewardship.
