John R. Ybarra is a Partner in the Orange County office of Resnick & Louis, P.C., where he practices in the areas of Toxic Tort, Products Liability, Catastrophic and Personal Injury, Wrongful Death, Employment Law, and Complex Civil Litigation. He has been litigating cases in California state and federal courts since 2009 and handles matters from initial pleadings through verdict.
John’s practice centers on toxic-tort and exposure litigation, including asbestos, benzene, silica, and talc claims involving brake and clutch components, gaskets, insulation, valves, pumps, flooring, cement and plaster products, drywall, and natural and engineered stone. He has handled matters alleging asbestosis, lung cancer, and other exposure-related injuries, and has tried cases and argued dispositive motions across a range of related claims. Beyond toxic tort, John has litigated contract, real estate, probate, criminal, personal injury, and wrongful death matters, giving him a broad base from which to evaluate exposure and build case strategy. John also maintains an employment practice, representing employers in workplace disputes and advising them on employment matters.
As a litigator, John has deposed plaintiffs, percipient witnesses, and retained experts, and has defended depositions in cases involving multiple codefendants. He drafts and argues motions at every stage, from demurrers and discovery motions through summary judgment, summary adjudication, and motions in limine, and prepares complete trial packages including exhibit and witness lists, statements of the case, and special and CACI jury instructions. He also handles mediations, mandatory settlement conferences, and direct negotiation of resolutions, working directly with clients, corporate counsel, and carriers throughout. John manages discovery through relational databases, keeping case materials immediately accessible to co-counsel and clients in document-intensive matters.
Prior to joining Resnick & Louis, P.C., John founded AFUJU Lawyers in Los Angeles in 2009, where he spent more than fifteen years as a trial attorney building a toxic-tort and general civil litigation practice.
John earned his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University Law School in Nashville, Tennessee, where he competed in Moot Court and Mock Trial. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Utah Valley University, graduating summa cum laude and earning Dean’s List recognition for six semesters.
John is licensed to practice law in the State of California.
