Kurt Sorensen

Partner

K. Taylor Sorensen is a Partner in in the Salt Lake City office of Resnick & Louis, P.C., where his practice focuses on civil litigation, insurance defense, government and municipal law. Taylor brings extensive leadership and litigation experience from senior public practice roles, providing clients with grounded, realistic counsel informed by high-level regulatory compliance, law enforcement and governmental relations work.

Prior to joining Resnick & Louis, Taylor served as the elected County and District Attorney for Cache County, Utah, where he acted as the County’s chief legal officer and oversaw the prosecution of all felony and Class A misdemeanor offenses. Aside from criminal law and managing an office of over 30 employees, he advised county legislative and executive leadership, department heads, and affiliated entities on complex legal, policy, and operational issues for the sixth largest county in the state. His responsibilities included directing litigation strategy, negotiating and closing multimillion-dollar real estate and capital projects, managing high-value claims and settlement negotiations, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Previous to his election  Taylor served as Chief Civil Deputy County Attorney for Cache County, where he was the County’s lead civil counsel. He provided strategic legal guidance on contracts and interlocal agreements involving municipalities, Utah State University, and the State of Utah, oversaw complex civil litigation, and worked closely with stakeholders to mitigate financial and legal risk. Earlier in his career, Taylor practiced as an associate attorney with Cragun Berube, LLP, focusing on high-conflict family law litigation, and with Ames, Ames, LLP, where his practice emphasized civil litigation and insurance defense.

Taylor received his Juris Doctor, with a Business Law Certificate, from the University of Utah in 2019. While in law school, he placed third in the American College of Bankruptcy National Competition and gained valuable government and practice experience through clerkships with the Park City Municipal Corporation, the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and the Utah Third District Court. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Brigham Young University in 2016.

Outside of his legal practice, Taylor values time with his family, hiking, barbecue, and remains actively engaged in his community. His career reflects a commitment to fair resolutions, problem solving, and effective representation across a wide range of civil litigation matters.
